El Dorado man gets 15 years for child porn

A 45-year-old El Dorado man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of receiving child pornography.

U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas Conner Eldridge said in a statement that Shannon Ross Griffin was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty in March.

Police served a warrant at Griffin's home in September 2013, seizing two computers and other digital devices that contained more than 700 images and videos of child pornography, Eldridge said. Griffin admitted downloading the illegal files, Eldridge wrote in the statement.

"Today’s sentence is a reminder that we will not rest in our efforts to identify, investigate, and prosecute those who abuse our children," he added. "Crimes such as these are horrendous and inexcusable. Every time a video or image involving sexual abuse of children is downloaded or viewed these children are re-victimized.”

Griffin will be on supervised release for the rest of his life after his prison term.
