Library book sale set this weekend

Library patrons can dig through thousands of boxes of used books at the Friends of Central Arkansas Libraries book sale this weekend.

All hardbacks are on sale for $1 and paperbacks will be sold for 50 cents. The used-book sale runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. Sunday in the basement of the Main Library downtown in the River Market at 100 Rock St.

"In our basement there are between 80,000 to 100,000 books," library spokesman Susan Gele said. "They come from a lot of different places. Some are donated by patrons. They also come from the weeding process we do in the library. If we have updated editions or multiple copies of the same book that we don't need anymore, we put the extra down there."

Friends of Central Arkansas Libraries members will be allowed to enter an hour early Friday and Saturday. Memberships can be purchased at the door. Teachers with valid identification will get an additional 25 percent discount.
