Arkansas Democrat-Gazette/STATON BREIDENTHAL --7/23/14-- A Jacksonville police vehicle drives past the main gate of the Little Rock Air Force Base Wednesday afternoon after the base was locked down about 11:45 a.m. because of a suspicious individual.

Little Rock Air Force Base in Jacksonville said Thursday that the base was locked down Wednesday after a "suspicious person" tried to forcibly access a base building.

Someone on the base reported the person to the Security Forces desk, prompting the investigation, a Little Rock Air Force Base news release states.

The base was conducting an emergency response exercise at the time, but the report was not part of the scenario, officials said.

Law enforcement officials conducted a “thorough sweep” of the base and determined that no threat existed.

“The report was a case of mistaken identity associated with the heightened awareness of a readiness exercise,” the release states.

"We take all reports seriously and investigate them thoroughly," Col. Patrick Rhatigan, 19th Airlift Wing commander said in a statement. "Due to this report, I implemented a lockdown and our highly trained Security Forces Airmen responded to secure our Airmen, their families and Air Force resources.”
