We passed the year’s halfway mark on July 2, folks.
So with the CGI-heavy Dwayne Johnson sandal-and-sword epic Hercules not screening in time for our critics to review it, we thought we’d take a quick look back at what has been a surprisingly good year so far. MovieStyle editor Philip Martin has turned up a few gems, some of which are still playing local theaters, as well as others which are or will soon be on DVD and VOD. (As well as a couple of the others that might yet make it to local screens.)
We’ve also got Dan Lybarger on Luc Besson’s Lucy, which unleashes a supersmart Scarlett Johansson on the Taipei mob that inadvertently created her, and Rob Reiner’s And So It Goes. Also, Philip Seymour Hoffman’s last film, A Most Wanted Man, opens.
