Memphis man convicted of sexual battery, rape

MEMPHIS — A Memphis man faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years in prison after being convicted of raping a child, aggravated sexual battery and rape.

The Commercial Appeal reported that 46-year-old Marc Baechtle also faces up to 12 years each with no parole for the charges of aggravated sexual battery and rape. He will be sentenced Aug. 28.

Prosecutors say Baechtle first began sexually abusing the 10-year-old girl in January 2001. After her 13th birthday, prosecutors say, Baechtle continued to force the child to perform sexual acts with him. The victim is now an adult.

According to online criminal records and the national Sex Offender Registry, Baechtle was also convicted in Florida in 2008 of sexual battery/coercion of a child.
