2:30 p.m. update:

Interstate 40 eastbound has been reopened as of 2:22 p.m. Friday, the Carlisle Police Department said.

Traffic will be diverted along Interstate 40 eastbound between Biscoe and Brinkley about 9:30 a.m. Friday because of an overnight accident, officials said.

Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department spokesman Randy Ort said a tractor-trailer that ran off the road overnight is causing traffic delays and a reroute will be necessary to remove the truck.

I-40 eastbound traffic will be diverted off the Biscoe exit 202 and onto U.S. 70, Ort said. Traffic will be diverted back onto the interstate at Exit 216 at Brinkley.

Ort said this reroute will affect only the eastbound lanes of I-40.

The Highway Department tweeted that the reroute to remove the truck could last up to five hours.
