California punter commits to Hogs

Punter Blake Johnson orally committed to Arkansas on Saturday night after visiting Fayetteville on Thursday.

Coach Bret Bielema, defensive line and specialists coach Rory Segrest and special teams quality control coach Tanner Burns were key in his decision.

“Coach B and coach Tanner Burns and coach Segrest really make Arkansas a special place,” said Johnson, who’s rated the No. 1 punter in the nation by Chris Sailer Kicking. “That really won me over. “

“The area and the school itself is just gorgeous,” Johnson said of Arkansas. “The people are so nice. That’s what made me know Arkansas is the place I needed to be.”

He and his family visited LSU on Saturday. Johnson said he wanted to commit to Arkansas after receiving the offer, but wanted to honor his promise that he would visit the Tigers.

“I came really close,” Johnson said. “The only thing holding me back was knowing I made a commitment and I needed to stick with that commitment.”

Johnson is Arkansas’ 11th commitment for the 2015 class. Oral commitments are nonbonding.
