Group kicks off 2015 Heart Walk season

Bobby Odom and the Odom Law Fir welcomed more than 700 politicos, candidates, judges, attorneys and local celebrities Aug. 18 to the Springdale-Fayetteville Elks Lodge for the 42nd annual Odom Law Firm Seafood Jubilee.

Those joining the firm for festivities and some 750 pounds of shrimp and crawfish included John Threet, Jim Rose, Kit Williams, Hugh Kincaid, Judge Mark Lindsey, Jack Butt, Judge Bill Storey, Laura Huckabee, Kelly Johnson, Judge Christy Beaumont, Archie Schaffer, Judge Beth Bryan, Casey Jones, Marilyn Edwards, Cynthia Nance, Mark Henry, Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan, University of Arkansas Law School Dean Stacy Leeds, Judge Jim Spears, Mike Ross and Adella Gray.

Courtney and Matt Kistler opened their Pinnacle Country Club home that evening as the the American Heart Association kicked off the 2015 Heart Walk Season and said 'thank you' to their 2014 Heart Heroes. More than 12,000 walkers raised some $1.2 million for the April walk at Arvest Ballpark in Springdale.

Among those championing heart health with the Kistlers were Kate Garner, Holly and Jim Breach, Sandy and Larry Mahoney, Cathey and Scott Roberts and Kim and Paul Crawford.

The Children's Safety Center far surpassed their $60,000 fundraising goal for the Dream Big Charity Gala on July 19 at the Fayetteville Town Center. The annual benefit's more than 700 guests helped bring in some $85,000 for the nonprofit organization.

The center uses a multi-disciplinary approach in a child-friendly environment to serve victims of alleged abuse in one place.

The group named Karis Chastain, an Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division investigator, its 2014 "Ordinary Hero" and John Threet, 4th Judicial District prosecuting attorney, was presented the "Extraordinary Hero" award.

The evening's program included tastes from area restaurants, live and silent auctions and live music from Boom Kinetic.

Those helping the Children's Safety Center dream big included Kysia and Chris Thornton, Jordan and Richard Watkins, Sarah and Jacob White, Susan and Paul Antony, Kelly and Steve Zega, John Sampson, Brittney Duke and Jamie Davis.
