Audubon Society Meeting

CONWAY — The Arkansas River Valley Audubon Society will meet at 7 p.m. in Meeting Room 1 at the Faulkner County Library on Tyler Street. A program, Salamanders of the Ouachita Mountains, will be presented by Timothy Clay, a doctorate candidate at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Visitors are welcome, and refreshments will be served.

Fall Softball League Divisional Meeting

RUSSELLVILLE — The Russellville Recreation and Parks

Arkansas Notary Workshop

RUSSELLVILLE — The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center will present two sessions of the Arkansas Notary Workshop on Thursday at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. Sessions will be from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Notaries verify signatures on legal and business documents to deter fraud and ensure the proper execution of these documents. The Arkansas Secretary of State’s Office will walk participants through the application process, assist them in understanding issues facing notaries, and outline best practices and procedures for current and future notaries public. CONWAY — Meet author Duke Warren Kittle at the Faulkner County Library at 2 p.m. Kittle is the author of The Dragon Eaters, a young-adult fantasy novel. Music Festival

LESLIE — The Rackensack Folklore Society Salutes Local Music Heritage will held at 7 p.m. at the Ozark Heritage Arts Center, 410 Oak St. Admission is free, but donations will be taken for the center. The night of music will pay tribute to Jimmy Driftwood, Frankia Stills Treat, Elton Britt and fiddlers Absie and Abbie Morrison. Audience members will have an opportunity to visit with the families of these local music talents of yesteryear. The Greater Searcy County Chamber of Commerce is presenting the event. Child Development Associate Training

CONWAY — Childhood Services at Arkansas State University will conduct training for interested individuals in the Conway area who would like to earn the Child Development Associate (CDA )credential. Skin-Care Classes

CONWAY — Kimberly Tomlinson, an advanced, certified color and skin-care specialist, will present a series of five skin-care classes at 2 p.m. the first Saturday of the month at the Faulkner County Library. The first will be Aug. 2: Get that perfect complexion, an hour-long class on learning proper skin and sun care for all skin types, from dry to normal to combo and acne prone. No makeup will be applied during the class. All library events are free and open to the public.

Sacred Heart Meat Sale

MORRILTON — Sacred Heart Catholic School is selling Petit Jean whole slow-smoked Boston butts (8-10 pounds) for $32 each and smoked pork ribs (4-4.5 pounds) for $26, just in time for Labor Day. The meat must be ordered by noon Aug. 14 and will be available for pickup from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at Morrilton Packing House. Faulkner County Summer Concerts

CONWAY — The Faulkner County Library’s Summer Concert Series 2014, featuring local performers, continues at 2 p.m. Sundays: the Conway Symphony Orchestra, today; The Boomers, Aug. 3; folksimile, Aug. 10; and Men of Fire, Aug. 17. The concerts will be held in the “parklike setting” of the interior of the library, with ice cream and lemonade provided. The series is supported by Friends of the Faulkner County Library. Augsburg Fall Fest Booth Applications

AUGSBURG — JoAnn Dorn, arts, crafts and vendor booth chairwoman, is taking applications for booth spaces for the seventh annual Augsburg Fall Fest, to be held Oct. 11 at Zion Lutheran Church at the intersection of Arkansas 333 and Augsburg Road. Proceeds from the festival will benefit the River Valley Free Christian Clinic and the Augsburg Food Pantry.

Holiday Puppets Family Show

FAIRFIELD BAY — The Holiday Puppets will perform at 11 a.m. every Wednesday during the summer at the Puppet Playhouse in the post office building. The 45-minute show features Punch and Judy, Dudley the Magnificent Magician and The Cat Came Back shadow puppets. The family show is free and open to the public.

RUSSELLVILLE — An AARP Smart Driver Course, hosted by Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 5 in the Saint Mary’s Annex, behind the hospital. The class is open to people 55 and older. The cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers, payable to AARP the day of the class. Pastries and coffee will be provided. Reality-Based Leadership Workshop

RUSSELLVILLE — The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center will present Reality-Based Leadership from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 7 at Arkansas Tech University. Loretta Cochran, associate professor of management at ATU, will discuss concepts based on the book Reality-Based Leadership: Ditch the Drama, Restore Sanity to the Workplace, and Turn Excuses into Results, by Cy Wakeman. The Perrys Concert

Author Presentation

CONWAY — Jay Grelen, author of Sweet Tea Tales, will be at the Faulkner County Library at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 17. Grelen will read from his new book and discuss life as a “newspaper hack” and the stories that go along with that. Grelen spent 35 years at 10 newspapers, including 10 years at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, which published his thrice-weekly Sweet Tea column.
