Interstate 40 East traffic slows Monday morning, July 28, 2014, after a wreck requires a medical helicopter to land on the highway.

Eastbound Interstate 40 was shut down Monday morning at mile marker 131 so a medical helicopter could land at the scene of a wreck, authorities said.

Mile marker 131 is in the Lake Conway area just south of Conway.

Arkansas State Police said the crash happened shortly before 8 a.m. By 8:45 a.m., the wreck had been cleared and the lanes reopened, but traffic remained slow because of an emergency vehicle on the shoulder.

Police on the scene said it was a two-vehicle wreck involving a pickup and a car. One person was taken by helicopter, and one was still being treated in ambulance on the scene.
