WHAT: The Gilded Nut Gourmet Pistachios
STATS: One ounce of the Habanero Heat flavor (1.12 servings per box) contains 160 calories and 13 fat, 8 carbohydrate, 3 fiber and 6 protein grams.
THE SKINNY: The Gilded Nut Fancy Snack Co., established in 2012 in Portland, Maine, might produce California pistachios, but founder -- head nut -- John D. Powers is from Little Rock. Powers graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a business management degree.
So here's hoping that his seasoned pistachios in cute packaging might soon be sold statewide (currently, they're available at Gourmet Eureka in Eureka Springs and online at gildednut.com).
The nuts are available in four lively flavors (the smokey/garlicky Original Blend; Mediterranean Herb; Habanero Heat; and Sea Salt + Pepper). And because pistachios take time to eat -- and because there's not much to eat (there is only slightly more than a shelled ounce per container; the 2.25 ounce amount quoted on the front of the package includes shells) -- it's not possible to go nuts gorging on them.
