Man accused of punching, kicking pregnant girlfriend

A 24-year-old Little Rock man is accused of battering his pregnant girlfriend and telling her he hopes her baby dies, authorities said.

Tramel E. James was arrested Monday night on a charge of third-degree domestic battery enhanced to be a Class D felony.

According to Little Rock Police Department reports, James first punched the victim in the face and then kicked her in the leg after becoming "upset about a phone inside a baby bag" while at his girlfriend's home.

Police reported James then told the 22-year-old victim, "I hope your baby dies."

"He then kicked her belly," police wrote, describing the victim as "visibly 5 months pregnant."

Authorities said the victim suffered visible minor injuries and possible internal ones. Her condition wasn't clear Tuesday.

An arrest report said James was arrested shortly after 9:30 p.m. after being pulled over in the 6200 block of Baseline Road.

James, who remained in the Pulaski County jail Tuesday with bail not yet set, is due in court Monday.
