LITTLE ROCK — A flash flood watch goes into effect in western Arkansas on Wednesday afternoon as storms bringing heavy rainfall head toward the state.
The watch is effective from 1 p.m. Wednesday through Thursday afternoon for Crawford, Franklin and Sebastian counties. A watch beginning Wednesday night affects Logan, Montgomery, Pike, Polk, Scott and Yell counties.
The National Weather Service says showers and thunderstorms are likely Wednesday night, with 1 to 3 inches of rain expected in western Arkansas. Forecasters say areas of the Ouachita Mountains will likely see heavy rainfall, which could lead to flash flooding.
The rain is expected to continue Thursday, primarily in central and south Arkansas. Forecasters say the storms should clear out by Friday, with a dry weekend in store.
