Mountain Home man accused of beating son

A Mountain Home man was arrested Tuesday and charged with second-degree battery on a child after a compliant was filed against him by his son's grandparent.

The grandparent said she picked the child up to spend the night and noticed bruising on the 5-year-old’s face and neck, the Baxter County sheriff’s office said. The child’s father, David Sutterfield, 37, was named as the person responsible for the bruising, officials said.

Sutterfield denied injuring the child in an interview, but he gave “several different versions of what had caused the injuries,” the sheriff's office said.

An adult household member told investigators that she saw Sutterfield grab the child’s face, shove him down and strike him in the face, officials said.

Sutterfield is being held at the Baxter County jail in lieu of $25,000 bond and will appear in circuit court Thursday.
