MovieStyle: Guardians not your typical superhero movie

The big noise you just heard was Guardians of the Galaxy landing in theaters all over Arkansas. And the latest next installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is, if nothing else, a huge departure from the conventional superhero movie.

“Before the film actually screened,” our Piers Marchant reports, “ there was a fairly low hum of disapproval, disbelief and disparagement from the fanboy community. The early trailers captured the film’s comic sensibilities but little else, and the fact that the movie stars, among others, a giant, walking plant and his best buddy, an angry, weapons-toting raccoon with a thirst for danger seemed so random as to be easily discounted, another Sprint Framily Plan gone to hell.”

Um, OK, but is it any good? Turn in to this week’s MovieStyle to find out. And while there, you can also read Philip Martin on Roman Polanski’s Venus in Fur, Dan Lybarger’s take on the James Brown bio-pic Get On Up and a whole lot more.
