Bright, precocious is David Hockney

Ever since his emergence as a pop art painter in the 1960s, Englishman David Hockney has been an amazingly popular and accessible artist. His early work bore a striking similarity to painters like R.B. Kitaj and Larry Rivers, but after he moved to America he developed a more personal style, painting light and bright Southern California scenes with simple precision, like the excellent A Bigger Splash (1967).
