Volunteers set storm-aid event in Vilonia

A group of organizations Friday will hold a day-long event Friday in Vilonia to offer services to those affected by April's devastating storms.

The Arkansas Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, a coalition of aid organizations, will be conducting the event noon to 8 p.m. Friday at the First Assembly of God Church, 851 Main St., off U.S. 64 in Vilonia. Volunteers will offer disaster food boxes, water and other nonperishable food items; Visa and Wal-Mart gift-cards; crisis counseling and help with storm-debris removal.

Financial help and recovery assistance for military personnel and veterans will also be available.

People planning on attending the event should bring some proof of address, such as a driver's license or a bill with their street address on it.

The organizations involved are Arkansas Baptist State Convention/Disaster Relief; Arkansas Crisis Response Team; Arkansas Episcopal Disaster Relief Team; Arkansas Foodbank Network; American Red Cross; Arkansas Rice Depot; Catholic Charities of Arkansas; Presbyterian Disaster Assistance; The Salvation Army; United Methodist Committee on Relief; Operation Homefront and Operation Hope.
