JACKSON, Tenn. — A grand jury has indicted three men in the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Arkansas State football player Markel Owens.

Jackson police say Johnny Wade, Derrick Wade and Craig Taylor were indicted Monday on charges of robbery and first-degree murder in the deaths of Owens and 36-year-old Johnny Shivers, the junior defensive lineman's stepfather. They also are charged with attempted murder in the shooting of Owens' mother, Chermaine Owens-Shivers.

Authorities say the Wades, who are cousins, forced their way into a Jackson apartment on Jan. 15 and demanded money. Police say Owens and Shivers were fatally shot during a struggle.

Owens' mother also was shot. The robbers fled with a large amount of cash.

Police said Taylor drove the Wades away from the scene. All three men are in custody.
