Goodwill Industries of Arkansas hosts conservation event

Goodwill Industries of Arkansas plans to host a luncheon to promote energy conservation.

The Putting Green to Work lunch is scheduled for June 26. The luncheons are a partnership between the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality and Arkansas Manufacturing Solutions and feature businesses and organizations that have excelled at energy conservation and other sustainable practices.

Goodwill is a two-time finalist for the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality's Environmental Stewardship Award for its efforts to divert waste from landfills.

The 576,000-square-foot Goodwill Resource Center is a processing center that has diverted more than 43.5 million pounds of goods from landfills including clothing, books and consumer electronics.

Since 2009, Goodwill has partnered with Dell ReConnect to keep electronic waste out of landfills. Goodwill has diverted 1.5 million pounds of e-waste in Arkansas.
