Republican attorney general candidate Leslie Rutledge headed to the polls Tuesday to cast her early vote in the Republican runoff for the party’s nomination.
Rutledge, a former attorney for the Republican National Committee and counsel to former Gov. Mike Huckabee, is up against David Sterling, a North Little Rock attorney, in next Tuesday's primary runoff.
The secretary of state’s office predicted a light turnout for the runoff. Twenty-one percent of the state's 1.6 million registered voters cast a ballot in the May 20 primary, The Associated Press has reported.
Rutledge said she decided to vote early in case she’s not in Pulaski County on Election Day.
“We’re out campaigning across the state, and we want to make sure that people are aware that there is a runoff election,” she said.
Rutledge's focus between now and June 10 is to keep on campaigning, she said.
"We're asking people to call their friends, call their family, go to their churches and ask people to go out and vote," she said. "As long as you did not vote in the Democratic primary, you're eligible to vote in the Republican runoff."
