Hot Springs group to release downtown plan

A task force that has developed a plan for Hot Springs' downtown area is to release its findings.

The Downtown Game Plan Task Force started work in March and is to detail its proposals at an event at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hot Springs Convention Center Plaza.

The group was formed to help find ways to preserve the downtown area's distinctive architecture while bringing buildings up to modern standards.

The city has declared about two dozen buildings unsafe, and the century-old Majestic Hotel was condemned after being destroyed by fire in February.

The task force surveyed more than 300 stakeholders in downtown as it worked on its plan.
