Veterans Outreach Meeting

PLEASANT PLAINS — The Veterans Outreach Ministries, a faith-based organization that reaches out to veterans and their families to ensure that they receive proper care and treatment, will host one of a series of meetings for veterans at 1 p.m. at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10007, 250 E. Fulton County Golf Tournament

MELBOURNE — The Ozarka College Foundation will host a four-person-scramble golf tournament at 9 a.m. at the South Course in Cherokee Village. All proceeds will go to Ozarka College’s Mammoth Spring campus. The entry fee is $300 per team, which includes range balls, use of a golf cart, a light breakfast, lunch, a gift bag and 18 holes of golf. Mulligans will be available for $5 each. Genealogy Workshop

POWHATAN — A Genealogy Workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Powhatan Historic State Park. Topics will include oral history, using archival records and the Internet, and preserving family keepsakes. The workshop is for beginner and intermediate genealogists, and participants are encouraged to bring their research. The registration fee is $10. Dog Bath/Dip

BATESVILLE — The Humane Society of Independence County will hold its monthly dog bath/dip from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The bathing and dipping are free, but donations are appreciated. Dessert Theater Auditions

SEARCY — Auditions for Dessert Theater productions in July will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Performing Arts Center on the Square, 219 W. Arch St. Winners of the playwright contest were Dream Date, a two-act play written by Dan Borengasser of Springdale, and Money Isn’t Everything, a one-act written by Linda Norris of Searcy. The cast will include five males and five females. Auditioners need to arrive prepared to sing 16 measures of a favorite song and to read excerpts from the script that the director will have prepared. Homecoming Celebration

MCRAE — The Lebanon Cemetery will celebrate its 60th Homecoming at 10:55 a.m. at the cemetery in McRae. The morning events will be followed by a potluck dinner at noon and an afternoon of singing and fellowship. Attendees are asked to bring lawn chairs.

Batesville Farmers Market

BATESVILLE — The new Batesville Main Street Farmers Market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon June 14 in the Pocket Park on Batesville’s historic Main Street, and on every second Saturday through November. The market will feature locally grown food and locally made handcrafts and works of art, as well as music, free early-morning yoga sessions, cooking demonstrations and children’s activities. Holiday Puppets Family Show

FAIRFIELD BAY — The Holiday Puppets will perform at 11 a.m. every Wednesday during the summer at the Puppet Playhouse in the post office building in Fairfield Bay. The 45-minute show features Punch and Judy, Dudley the Magnificent Magician and The Cat Came Back shadow puppets. The free family show is open to the public.

Chronic Pain Meeting

CABOT — The Cabot Chapter of the American Chronic Pain Association meets from 6-8 p.m. the first Friday of the month at 15361 Arkansas 5. The association is a nonprofit, self-help group designed to teach people with chronic pain to reduce the impact pain has on their work and personal lives. Certified Nursing Assistant Class

MELBOURNE — Ozarka College is accepting enrollment for its Basic Health Skills class, catered to certified nursing assistants (CNAs). This nine-week college-credit course is available at Ozarka’s four campuses: Melbourne, Ash Flat, Mammoth Spring and Mountain View. The class meets twice per week, with two clinicals during the term. Students who take the class and at least one other college course are eligible to apply for financial aid and have the opportunity to be admitted into the Certified Nursing Assistant Program. ASU-Newport Summer Hours

NEWPORT — The hours of operation for Arkansas State University-Newport have shifted to a summer schedule. ASU-Newport’s campuses in Newport, Jonesboro and Marked Tree will be open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday through Aug. 7. With the exception of White River Hall on the Newport campus, all offices and locations of ASUN will be closed Fridays. ASU-Newport will resume normal operating hours Aug. 11. Events that are already scheduled to take place on Fridays during the summer will still be held.

Bookshop’s New Hours

HEBER SPRINGS — The Friends of the Library Book Shop, 2255 Arkansas 25B N., will now be open from 3:30-7 p.m. Mondays. The shop is also open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays. The shop offers a large selection of books at bargain prices. All proceeds from the shop benefit the libraries in Cleburne County, including the new library in Quitman.

Second Time Around Bookstore

SEARCY — The Literacy Council of White County operates the Second Time Around Bookstore at 109 E. Center in downtown Searcy. Proceeds from the sale of donated books support the mission of helping adults in the community improve their literacy and English-language skills. The store and literacy office are open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays. Cabot Community Coalition Meeting

CABOT — The Cabot Community Coalition, a group of organizations in the Cabot area that provide assistance to those in need, meets at noon the second Thursday of each month at the Diner Restaurant on South Second Street. CALICO ROCK — Two free Summer Day Camps for students going into first through sixth grades will be offered at the Calico Rock Museum on Main Street. Life as an Artist will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 19. Students will make tie-dyed shirts, sculpt in clay, make marbles and have explore sand art. Discover Life as a Settler will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 11. Students will explore the new Homestead in the Coal House exhibit, churn butter, make homemade ice cream, use a spinning wheel, process wool and weave. Davidsonville Day Camps

POCAHONTAS — Two Davidsonville Day Camps, open to kids 8-12 years old, will offer an opportunity to learn about history and nature. Archaeology Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 25-27. Kids will learn about archaeology through activities and games and will dig in the dirt like real archaeologists. Adventure Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 16-18.
