Albemarle donates $200,000 to SAU

MAGNOLIA — Louisiana-based Albemarle Corp. and the Albemarle Foundation have given Southern Arkansas University $200,000 to create an endowed professorship at the school's Magnolia campus.

The school said Thursday that a recent $60,000 donation would be combined with an earlier $140,000 endowment to establish the SAU Albemarle Endowed Professor of Engineering. Albemarle is a specialty chemical company that has supported the recent approval of SAU's engineering program.

The starting enrollment for the program should be more than 20 students.

SAU President David Rankin said the school is seeking additional public and private funds for the engineering program.

Albemarle is based in Baton Rouge.
