Parolee arrested in shooting after police track his ankle monitor

Police used a parolee's electronic ankle monitor to track him and arrest him Thursday after he was identified as a suspect in a shooting.

Garland Washington, 39, was booked into the Pulaski County jail on charges of second-degree domestic battery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a certain person. He remained there Friday morning with bail not yet set.

The Pulaski County sheriff's office says Washington was developed as a suspect in a shooting at 5605 Robin Valley Drive outside North Little Rock on Thursday that left the 38-year-old victim with a gunshot wound in the foot.

Lt. Carl Minden said the victim, who has known Washington for his whole life, reported Washington showed up at his residence wielding a baton and accused him of stealing things. The victim told Washington to leave, at which point he returned to his vehicle and fired multiple shots toward the residence from there, Minden said.

According to a report, Washington is a parolee who wears an electronic ankle monitor. That allowed parole officials to track him to 6 East Orchid Cove in Mabelvale, where deputies found and arrested him shortly before 10:30 p.m.

Online records show Washington is on supervised parole in the Little Rock district through 2017. Pulaski County circuit court records show he pleaded guilty in 2012 to charges of forgery and possession of a forgery device and was sentenced to five years in prison.

Further details on the shooting itself weren't immediately available.
