UA to host Veterans Golden Age Games

FAYETTEVILLE — The University of Arkansas is preparing to host a sporting event for games for older veterans who are in adaptive rehabilitation programs.

The school said Thursday that it's looking for volunteers to help with the games, which run June 28 through July 2 at the Fayetteville campus. The games are open to veterans 55 and older who are in the rehab program.

Volunteers are needed as greeters, baggage handlers, campus guides, assistants with the games and other roles. Organizers say they'll also need help setting up and breaking down competition sites.

The more physical games include golf, javelin, shot put, discus, power walk, precision walk, shuffleboard and cycling. Other competitions include checkers, dominoes, table tennis, bowling, horseshoes, swimming, badminton, 9-ball, and air rifle.
