I-40 bridge work to close inner lanes

Work will require lane closures beginning Monday in West Memphis near the Interstate 40 bridge over the Mississippi River, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

Contractors working for the Tennessee Department of Transportation are moving an electronic message board so they can perform seismic modifications to the bridge. The modifications will help stabilize the bridge in the event of an earthquake.

The work will require closing the eastbound and westbound inside lanes on Interstate 40 between the bridge and Exit 281 at Mound City Road on weekdays through June 20, weather permitting.

The eastbound inside lane will be closed weekdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The westbound inside lane will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
