Beaders head to Ozarks for mid-August retreat

Attention beading artisans. Northwest Arkansas will play host again to the second annual Beading in the Ozarks, a retreat to be held Aug. 14-17 at the Inn of the Ozarks Conference Center, 207 W. Van Buren St. in Eureka Springs and featuring noted beaded-jewelry designers Laura McCabe, Sherry Serafini and Maggie Meister.

McCabe -- producer of elaborately beaded body adornment and sculpture that combines American Indian, African, and Victorian bead-weaving techniques with modern materials and color schemes -- was a 2013 winner in the Saul Bell Design Awards (for artists who push the limits of jewelry design and imagination). Serafini was voted one of the top 10 instructors in the United States by Bead & Button magazine; her beaded art has been worn by Melissa Etheridge, Steven Tyler, Lenny Kravitz and Fergie. Meister, who has studied at the Mosaic Art School in Ravenna, Italy, under Luciana Notturni and learned the ancient traditional methods of creating mosaics, teaches workshops all over the world. She is the author of Classical Elegance for Lark Books as part of its Master Beadweaving Series.

Registration is $645 for the three-and-a-half-day retreat. This
