JAZZ AND JULEPS

Food, drinks, hearing music add to scholarship fund fun

Zelda Hoaglan was the honoree at the fifth annual Jazz and Juleps, held May 29 at the Governor's Mansion.

UALR assistant professor Kathy Shapley noted that the event was also an opportunity for the University of Arkansas at Little Rock audiology and speech pathology department to raise funds for scholarships.

The scholarship fund was named the Zelda Selph Hoaglan Student Scholarship Fund in her honor. Hoaglan has served as a volunteer and chairman of the department's Development Council, which exists to assist and raise money for the department. The event raised about $60,000.

Audiology and speech pathology assists some 2,700 clients annually through its campus clinic, and places 30-40 interns in community clinics each year.

The evening included hors d'oeuvres and cocktails, entertainment by Mojo de Jazz, and an auction with Craig O'Neill as auctioneer. Cathy Shaneyfelt was event chairman.
