Lane closures set for I-55, I-40 in Crittenden County

Lane closures are scheduled to start this week on Interstate 55 and Interstate 40 in Crittenden County, state highway officials said.

Crews will be resurfacing eight miles of northbound I-55 between Jericho and Lake David. The interstate will be reduced to one lane from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. starting Thursday and finishing June 25, weather permitting, according to Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department officials.

Cones and warning signs will control traffic, and officials ask motorists to be cautious when approaching the work area.

In addition, contractors performing work for the Tennessee Department of Transportation will be moving an electronic message board to perform seismic modifications to the Interstate 40 Mississippi River Bridge, the department said.

That work will require closing the eastbound and westbound inside lanes on I-40 between the bridge and the Mound City Road exit, highway officials said. The work will run from Monday through June 20; the eastbound, inside lane will close from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, and the westbound, inside lane from 7 a.m. t o 3 p.m. weekdays, the department said.

Warning signs and barrels will be used to control traffic, officials added
