Pine Bluff man arrested in fatal stabbing

A 58-year-old Pine Bluff man has been arrested in a Sunday stabbing that left another man dead.

Pine Bluff police officers responded shortly before 6 p.m. to a home at 2709 W. Hill Ave. over a report of a stabbing, Sgt. David De Foor said in a statement. There, officers discovered that the victim, Maurice Turner, 41, of Pine Bluff, was already en route in a personal vehicle to Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

Witnesses told police that Gary Foots, 58, and turner had been arguing in the yard while grilling and that Foots had stabbed Turner once in the chest with a “cooking knife he had in his hand,” De Foor said.

Turner, who told a paramedic before he lost consciousness that Foots had stabbed him, was pronounced dead at 6:39 p.m. at the hospital, according to a police report.

Foots was arrested on a first-degree murder charge at the home on 2709 W. Hill Ave., where he remained after the stabbing, without incident, De Foor said.
