Police scammer using real names

A scammer posing as a police officer and asking people to send him money is now using the names of real law enforcement officials, according to the Pulaski County sheriff's office.

The scammer calls residents and tells them to send prepaid debit cards to pay for outstanding fines or as restitution for warrants, Pulaski County sheriff's office spokesman Lt. Carl Minden said.

Police started receiving complaints about the scam in August. The scammer had been using fake names, but Minden said he is now using the names of real employees at the Pulaski County sheriff's office and the Sherwood Police Department.
