Deadline June 27 for Morrilton chamber job

MORRILTON — The Morrilton Area Chamber of Commerce will accept applications for its president and CEO position until June 27, said Miles Lacy, president of the board of directors.

“Then we’ll meet on July 1 and seriously start the interview process, the selection process,” Lacy said.

The chamber position includes being president and CEO of the Conway County Economic Development Commission.

Brandon Baker, who held those positions for 2 1/2 years, left May 16 to take a position as health, safety and environmental coordinator at Southwestern Energy.

Cody Hill, 29, is serving as interim director. He has been director of membership and events at the chamber since 2012.

Morgan Zimmerman, a member of the chamber board and the search committee, said the job description includes “obviously, strong communication and leadership skills, goal-oriented, kind of a self-starter, experience managing staff, because that’s part of the job — sales and marketing skills. It’s a very diverse job, and fundraising is part of the job.”

She said the person doesn’t have to be a Morrilton native, but chamber officials want to find “someone passionate who’d like to stay,” and someone to whom the community is important, and a candidate who will strive “to make [the chamber] a better organization for the community,” Zimmerman said.

“We don’t have a hard deadline for hiring because we want to get the best person possible, but obviously, we’d like to expedite it because we have an interim,” she said.

Mike Dunaway, chairman of the Conway County Economic Development Commission and a member of the search committee, said he thinks the successful candidate should be “energetic — somebody that’s energetic, somebody that’s knowledgeable in the area of chamber activities and economic development and job growth, and all those things important in the community.”
