Eureka Springs' weekend has the blues, picnic for Pop

Eureka Springs Blues Weekend, formerly known as the Eureka Springs Blues Festival, begins today and continues through Sunday at various locations in the Northwest Arkansas resort village.

Headliners will perform at the City Auditorium: The Brandon Santini Band tonight; Chubby Carrier and Walter "Wolfman" Washington on Friday night; Carolyn Wonderland, Moreland & Arbuckle, Brick Fields & the Chosen Ones and Lucious Spiller on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m.

The Barefoot Ballroom at the top of the Basin Park Hotel will feature Larry Garner on Friday night and Johnny Ricker on Saturday night.

Other venues include the Basin Spring Park, Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, Chelsea's, the New Delhi Cafe, Pied Piper Pub & Cat House Lounge, Rockin' Pig Saloon, the Rowdy Beaver & the Beaver Den and the Voulez-Vous Lounge.

Also appearing at various venues around town are The Ariels, Blew Reed, Brody Buster, Danny Cox, Jesse Dean, Doghouse Daddies, Earl & Them, Steve Hester, Jeff Horton, Jigsaw Mud, Adam Johnston, Kris Lager, Levee Town, Stacy Mitchhart, Buddy Shute, Patrick Sweany, Tightrope and Isayah Warford & His AllStars.

On Sunday is the Father's Day Blues Picnic at Turpentine Creek. Weekend pass holders and children under 6 get in free, all others, $5.

Remaining admission options are $80 for a weekend pass; $20 for the Brandon Santini concert tonight; $30 for the Chubby Carrier/Walter "Wolfman" Washington concert Friday night; $20 for the Barefoot Ballroom concert by Larry Garner on Friday night; $30 for the Carolyn Wonderland, Moreland & Arbuckle, Brick Fields & the Chosen Ones and Lucious Spiller concert Saturday and $20 for the Barefoot Ballroom concert by Johnny Ricker on Saturday night.

Whoa Dakota will headline tonight at the White Water Tavern.

The four-person band from Nashville, Tenn., features singer Jessica Ott, guitarist Drew Smithers, bassist Taylor Zachry and drummer Houston Mathews.

Opening the show will be Little Rock's Bombay Harambee.

Admission to the 9 p.m. show will be $5.

Friday night, the club will host a Beatles night to benefit Pulaski Heights Elementary School. Performing the songs of The Beatles will be Amy Garland Angel, Kevin Kerby, Isaac Alexander, Indy Grotto, Jason Weinheimer, Greg Spradlin, Will Boyd, John McAteer, Danny Johnson, John Willis and more.

Admission to the 9 p.m. show will be $5.

Saturday, the club will feature Ginsu Wives, Vision Control and Jumbo Jet.

Admission to the 9:30 p.m. show is $5.

Walter "Wolfman" Washington will bring his blues show Saturday night to Stickyz Rock 'n' Roll Chicken Shack.

Admission is $10 to the 8:30 p.m. show.

Sunday night, The Whigs will play at Stickyz, with Buxton opening the 8 p.m. show. Based in Athens, Ga., The Whigs are a trio devoted to garage rock.

Admission is $8.

Singer-songwriter Chris Denny, who will release If the Roses Don't Kill Us in August, will perform at Juanita's tonight.

Denny, an Arkansas native now living in Austin, Texas, has battled addiction and other problems since the release of his debut album Age Old Hunger in 2007.

Katmandu, a band led by singer-songwriter Kat Hood, will perform at 9 p.m. Friday at Cajun's Wharf, 2400 Cantrell Road, Little Rock.

The band's show will also feature special guest Owen "Big Daddy O" Tufts of Kentwood, La.

Nightrain, which calls itself a "Guns N' Roses Tribute Experience," will perform at the Rev Room at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Admission is $10.

Zodiac: Gemini Edition, will perform at 8 p.m. Friday.

Opening acts will be Domewrekka, Terrabad, Big Brown, Mr. Napalm, Explicit and Jdawg.

Admission is $10, although the first 30 Geminis will be admitted free.

Maxine's in Hot Springs will present a weekend of solid music, starting tonight with Foxtrot Uniform, a blues-rock band from Texas.

Admission to the 9 p.m. show is free.

Friday night, the club will present Bombay Harambee at 9 p.m.

Cover charge is $5.

Saturday, four rock bands from Arkansas will perform in a Mayflower tornado relief show: Mulehead, plus opening acts Becoming Elephants, Opportunist and Wolves in Sheep's Clothing.

Donations will be accepted for the 8 p.m. show.

The Copper Penny Pub, a new club in Hot Springs, will present The Itinerant Locals performing from 9 p.m. to midnight Friday. The Locals, known for their polka music, have recently embraced the sounds of the Irish.

Saturday, the club will host Bill Jagitsch, a bluesman from Little Rock noted for his cigar-box guitar creations.

There is no cover charge for the shows at the club.
