Incumbent victor in sheriff's runoff

Incumbent Little River County Sheriff Gary Gregory won the Democratic primary runoff Tuesday over former Little River County Sheriff Danny Russell and will now face a Republican challenger, Ashdown police Lt. Bobby Walraven, in the Nov. 4 general election.

Complete but unofficial results were:

Gregory 1,421

Russell 1,255

The winner of the Nov. 4 general election for sheriff will assume the position Jan. 1.

Gregory pledged to continue to earn the support and loyalty of Little River County.

"I thank the citizens of Little River County and their support and belief in the Little River County sheriff's department. I thank the voters for their support and loyalty. I will do what needs to be done and continue to earn the support of the citizens of Little River County," Gregory said.

Russell noted that the election was close.

"Obviously, the people spoke, and they like what they have. I wish obviously it would have been the other way. It was hard-fought," Russell said.
