Orange traffic barrels used as fish shelters in Arkansas

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has found a use for broken, damaged and discarded orange traffic barrels.

Fisheries biologist Bob Limbird and assistant Frank Leone are taking the barrels from the state Highway and Transportation Department. They and volunteers saw openings into the sides of the barrels, insert plastic pipe and add some concrete for weight, then drop them into lakes in spots where they'll be below boat depths.

These barrels provide cover for many species of fish and fishermen like them because they provide a readily accessible spot where catches are likely to be made.
