Tour de Fun helps area teens

The Tour de Fun on Saturday will have something to do for nearly everyone. The eighth annual fundraiser for Teen Action and Support Center (TASC) will include 50K and 100K bike rides, a 5K chipped race, a 5K fun walk, kids' activities, a silent auction and a beer garden sponsored by Core Brewery, all in downtown Rogers.

Each year, the nonprofit organization serves more than 500 area teens ages 13-19 through four programs -- In Service, First Steps, TASC Counseling and Mary's Closet.

Some 300 teens volunteer each year in the In Service program that takes on projects for other organizations in the community. For example, recent In Service projects have helped groups such as Meals on Wheels, Holt Middle School and city parks. Heather Paul, executive director, said TASC welcomes requests for volunteer work from community organizations.

First Steps helps support teens who are pregnant or parenting through education and other resources, such as diapers and baby wipes.

Counseling services are offered for individuals, groups and families.

Mary's Closet provides food, clothing and other necessities for teens in extreme poverty and who are homeless or near homelessness.
