Deadspin report: Ex-UALR Coach Norwood verbally attacks player

The sports news website Deadspin.com released an audio recording Friday of what it claims is former UALR head baseball coach Scott Norwood verbally attacking his team after a game.

Without officially confirming that the recording is of Norwood, Richard Turner, UALR's senior associate athletic director for compliance, said in an interview that the university would not be releasing "additional information" about the audio. Turner said the university is actively investigating the baseball program and that information is protected while the investigation is ongoing.

Turner said once the investigation is complete, its findings will be released to the public.

"I've been here since 1978, and I cannot in my recollection remember any of our coaches violating our code of conduct standards," Turner said. "Now there have been times where the head of the athletic department has had to be called in, but no one has been terminated for code of conduct violations. So no, I can't remember anything like this."

Norwood resigned Monday "to pursue other opportunities," UALR said in a statement.
