Gas transmission line project proposed in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. — Two companies are proposing to build a natural gas transmission line from the Appalachian region into Virginia.

EQT Corp. and NextEra Energy Inc. are teaming up on the 330-mile project that would support the growing demand for natural gas produced from the Marcellus and Utica shales.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1mW4hNh) reports the pipeline, which requires federal regulatory approval, is expected to have a transmission capacity of at least 2 billion cubic feet per day. The project would extend EQT's gas transmission system from Wetzel County, West Virginia, cross through West Virginia into southwest Virginia, and have an initial expected delivery point in Pittsylvania County.

EQT Corp. is based in Pittsburgh. NextEra Energy is based in Juno Beach, Florida.

Earlier this month, Richmond-based Dominion Resources Inc. announced natural gas pipeline projects in upstate New York, West Virginia and Ohio.

Last month, aides to West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin said Houston-based Spectra Energy has proposed a 427-mile pipeline running from a compressor station in Bedford, Pennsylvania, across Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia to a Duke Energy facility in North Carolina.
