Gun rights advocates hold picnic in Detroit

DETROIT — Gun rights advocates hosted an open-carry picnic in Detroit to stress the importance of being armed for self-defense.

The Detroit News reports Saturday's event drew dozens of men, women and children to Milliken State Park along the city's riverfront.

Michigan Open Carry official Patrick Dunbar says it was "just like any other picnic," except "the vast majority of us are open-carrying our firearms."

Many of those in attendance had holstered pistols on their hips as they enjoyed a grilled hot dog lunch and soft drinks.
