Gun rights advocates hold picnic in Detroit

This article was published June 14, 2014 at 2:12 p.m.

DETROIT — Gun rights advocates hosted an open-carry picnic in Detroit to stress the importance of being armed for self-defense.

The Detroit News reports Saturday's event drew dozens of men, women and children to Milliken State Park along the city's riverfront.

Michigan Open Carry official Patrick Dunbar says it was "just like any other picnic," except "the vast majority of us are open-carrying our firearms."

Many of those in attendance had holstered pistols on their hips as they enjoyed a grilled hot dog lunch and soft drinks.

There was an interesting letter in the Hot Springs paper today. If an "Open Carry" guy walks into a store with his AR 15 in a "Stand Your Ground State", then wouldn't the shopkeeper be within his rights, feeling threatened, to shoot him?

The guy that was packing in the Las Vegas Walmart found out there is a lot more than meets the eye to this packing thing, as he is now pushing up daisies. Of the five that dies, all had guns, hummmm did I not hear some one say " The only answer to a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun". I'll bet his family members wish he had not believed that from the NRA.

Depends of how he was carrying hi AR 15. If he had it slung of his shoulder, it would be the same as in a holster.

The ADG omitted the NRA white supremacy picture of about 9 men and women with 9 hotdogs on the grill. Gotta wonder why 9 people at a picnic in Detroit makes news in Arkansas…???

That picnic was the safest area in the entire city. No criminals showed up. And in crime-ridden Detroit, that was quite an accomplishment. Ain't it strange how the thugs avoid an armed populace. Hitler and Stalin knew it, so why don't liberals understand it?
