Big band to play Robinson; opera to start up in Ozarks

White-hot comedy

Comedian Ron White will stand up on the stage of Fayetteville's Walton Arts Center, 495 W. Dickson St., at 7 p.m. Friday and 7 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $48-$78.

Rucker at Rogers

Country music singer Darius Rucker, who gained fame as lead singer and rhythm guitarist of Hootie & the Blowfish, will perform at 7 p.m. Friday at the new Wal-Mart AMP, 5079 W. Northgate Road, Rogers.

Who's that?

Actor David Tennant, who played television's 10th Doctor Who, appears in a two-for-one-ticket big-screen package -- as the doctor in the two-part Doctor Who story "Rise of the Cybermen/The Age of Steel" ("with never-before-seen content") at 7:30 p.m. Monday and as the narrator of Wings 3D, a documentary showing Earth from a bird's-eye view, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, directed by John Downer.

Ozarks opera

Opera in the Ozarks' 64th season, including 24 fully staged operatic performances in repertory in Eureka Springs and Bentonville, starts Friday at Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony, on U.S. 62 west of Eureka Springs.

The schedule at Inspiration Point's newly air-conditioned, outdoor venue (all shows at 7:30 p.m.):

• Friday, June 25, 28; July 1, 7, 16: Cosi fan tutte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

• Saturday, June 26; July 2, 5, 8, 17: Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi (two one-act operas on a double bill) by Giacomo Puccini

• June 24, 27, 30; July 3, 9, 14, 18: Into the Woods, music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book by James Lapine

The season will also feature these performances at the Arend Arts Center, 1901 S.E. J St., Bentonville (except as noted, all performances at 4 p.m.):

Stuttgart season

The Grand Prairie Center, Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas, 2709 U.S. 165 S., Stuttgart, opens its 2014-15 performance series in Riceland Auditorium at 8 p.m. Aug. 16 with Drake White and the Big Fire, with special guest Leith Loftin. The concert is in conjunction with Mack's Prairie Wings' Fall Festival in Stuttgart. Tickets are $15.
