Judsonia bicyclist, 4 others killed in highway accidents

Five people -- including a bicyclist and a motorcyclist -- died in separate accidents Thursday, Friday and early Saturday.

A Hot Springs man died Thursday after his car collided with another vehicle in Pike County, according to a police report.

Stanley Chandler, 55, was driving east on U.S. 70 near Salem about 4:15 p.m. when a westbound car crossed the centerline, hitting Chandler's car. Chandler was pronounced dead at 5:20 p.m.

The driver of the other vehicle, Cherryl Grant, 70, of Amity, was injured and taken to St. Vincent hospital in Hot Springs. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

A bicyclist riding along a highway near Kensett died after a pickup struck him Friday, a police report states.

Edward White, 51, of Judsonia was riding a bicycle south on Arkansas 36 about 4 miles east of Kensett in White County. At 3:18, a truck also traveling south, hit White, who was later pronounced dead at the scene by Emergency Management Services.

The driver of the truck, Danny Cleaver, 31, of Georgetown was not injured.

A motorcyclist from Greenbrier died Friday after going over a guardrail on Interstate 40, a police report states.

Chad Hollenbaugh, 50, was traveling west on Interstate 40 in Pope County at 6:02 p.m. He was traveling in the right lane and attempted to move to the left lane, losing control of his motorcycle. He struck a guardrail on the left shoulder near mile marker 88, going over the rail and falling approximately 20 feet to the ground.

Hollenbaugh was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pope County coroner.

One woman was killed and four women injured in a multivehicle crash in Saline County on Friday, according to a police report.

A vehicle driven by Gayle Moore, 41, of Little Rock was stopped on Interstate 30 eastbound near Benton; the reason the vehicle was stopped on the highway was not listed on the accident report. Betty Moore, 71, of Little Rock, Myrna Scallion and Emily Ratliff, Kentucky residents of unknown age, and Sheena Seals, of unknown age and residence, were all passengers in the vehicle.

At about 7:35 p.m., Gayle Moore's vehicle was rear-ended. A third car then rear-ended that vehicle.

Gayle Moore was pronounced dead at the scene. Betty Moore, Scallion, Ratliff and Seals were all injured and taken to either UAMS Medical Center or Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock. The drivers of the other vehicles were not injured.

Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said further details on the circumstances of the crash were unavailable Saturday and an investigation was ongoing.

A man was killed after veering off of a roadway and hitting a tree in southern Arkansas on Saturday, according to state police.

Waylong Eugene Caine, 28, of Hamburg was driving south on U.S. 425 in Ashley County about 10:30 a.m. Saturday when he crossed into the northbound lane, and then off of the road. A police report states that Caine hit the ditch and collided with a tree.

Caine was transported to Ashley County Medical Center, where he later died.
