Compton handling Pinehurst While Erik Compton rested for his Saturday afternoon round at the U.S. Open, his mother, Eli, monitored the morning wave of players at Pinehurst No. 2. It was like watching a man-made disaster unfold. The first 33 golfers to tee off averaged 75.06 strokes, and four did not break 80.
