Fire academy for kids to focus on safety

The fourth annual Kids Fire Academy is coming up Friday and will educate kids ages 8 to 12 on an array of safety subjects.

The event, which lasts from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., will start at the North Little Rock Police and Fire Training Facility at 2400 N. Willow St., and then the kids will head to the central fire department at 723 N. Maple St., North Little Rock Fire Department Capt. John Pflasterer said.

There, the kids can participate in the firefighter combat challenge and use some of the equipment off the trucks.

Lunch will be provided, and the event is free thanks to a fund from the Arkansas Fire Prevention Commission. The day will be capped off with a puppet show, Pflasterer said.

For more information, Pflasterer can be reached by phone at (501) 812-5942 or by email at jpflasteret@nlr.ar.gov.
