Traffic stop leads to cocaine arrest

Four men were arrested early Saturday morning after Little Rock police officers found guns and cocaine in their car during a traffic stop, police reported.

An officer pulled over an orange Chevrolet Monte Carlo near 300 Van Buren St. about 1:45 a.m. Saturday for not having its license plate illuminated, according to a report from police.

When the officer approached the vehicle, Rodney Lloyd, 20, of Little Rock and Angelo Conway, 19, of Little Rock stepped out, the report states. The officer told the men to get back in the car and they complied, according to the report.

Another officer arrived on the scene and spotted a rifle in the back seat of the car, the report states. The officers then began to arrest all four men in the car.

When police attempted to put Phillip Conway, 21, of Little Rock in the patrol car, he broke free and sprinted across the grass before losing his balance and falling, according to the report. He was apprehended by police and charged with third-degree escape.

Phillip Conway was being held at Pulaski County jail late Sunday in lieu of bond.

White powder that was later determined to be cocaine was found next to the passenger door of the vehicle, the report states. Police reported that video footage shows the powder being dropped out of the car's front passenger door when police approached the vehicle.

Angelo Conway, the person sitting in the front passenger seat, was charged with possession of cocaine. He was released from the Pulaski County jail on a $15,000 bond.

Police also discovered a pistol under the front driver's seat, according to the report. Officers reported that Lloyd, who was driving the vehicle, said he owned both the pistol and the rifle.

Lloyd was charged with carrying a weapon and was issued a traffic citation for not having a license plate light. He was being held in the Pulaski County jail in lieu of bond late Sunday.

The fourth passenger, James Rogers, 19, of Little Rock, was arrested on an outstanding warrant, the report states. He was not listed on the Pulaski County jail roster late Sunday.

Police arrest man in Wal-Mart theft

A Little Rock man faces two felony and four misdemeanor charges after he was arrested for shoplifting at a Wal-Mart in southwest Little Rock, police reported.

Mark Raney, 53, was arrested at 4:54 p.m. Saturday at the Wal-Mart at 8801 Baseline Road on accusations that he stole merchandise and resisted arrest, according to a police report.

When officers arrested Raney for shoplifting, they discovered he had three other warrants out for his arrest -- one for theft of property, one for breaking and entering, and one for failure to appear.

In connection with Saturday's arrest, he is being charged with theft of property, criminal trespass and refusal to submit to arrest, the report states.

Raney was being held at the Pulaski County jail Sunday night in lieu of bond.
