Conway shooting marks first homicide of year

Conway police say they are investigating the city’s first homicide of the year.

Officers were called shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday about a man found bleeding on the porch of his home at 75 E. Robins St., Conway police spokesman LaTresha Woodruff said in a statement.

There, they found Francesco Trujillo, 42, dead on the porch, lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound in his chest, she said.

Trujillo’s wife told detectives that when she went to bed at midnight, her husband was outside with some family members. Later, she awoke to check on him and found him lying on the porch, Woodruff said.

The family members told police that when they left Trujillo earlier in the night, he was fine, and they learned he had been shot only when his wife called them later, police said. A witness mentioned having heard a gunshot and a car leaving the area, Woodruff said.

Conway police have no suspects in the killing, and detectives are following up on leads, Woodruff said.
