Crews recover teen's body from Illinois River

SILOAM SPRINGS — Divers have recovered the body of a teenager who drowned in the Illinois River at a new recreation park in Siloam Springs.

Siloam Springs spokesman Holland Hayden said the teen's body was recovered Tuesday night about 200 yards downstream from Whitewater Recreation Park. Hayden told Fort Smith television station KHBS that visitors to the park are encouraged to wear life jackets, but it wasn't immediately known whether the teen was wearing one.

The Whitewater Recreation Park is open for swimming, kayaking and tubing. The park is not staffed by lifeguards.
