LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe says there are more than enough votes to pass measures aimed at addressing a rise in teacher insurance premiums and prison overcrowding as he nears a decision on whether to call a legislative sessions on those issues.
Beebe told reporters Monday that chances are "pretty good" he'll call a special session that could begin as early as Sunday night to address those issues. He said there's still disagreement between the House and Senate on whether the session should include an effort to prevent the state lottery from adding monitor games.
Beebe said he's also waiting on consensus on when to hold the session.
Legislative leaders say changes are needed to prevent a 35 percent premium increase for thousands of teachers and public school employees.
