Man posing as vacuum cleaner salesman charged with theft of property

Officials with the Benton Police Department are investigating a case in which a man posing as a vacuum cleaner salesman stole personal checks from a victim's home.

A report was filed with the Benton Police Department on Friday morning in reference to a theft of personal checks.

The victim told police that on June 16, a man claiming to be selling vacuums stopped by his house for a demonstration. After the man left, the victim noticed discrepancies on his bank account and realized checks had been written for a few hundred dollars that the victim didn't write.

The missing checks had been taken from the victim’s checkbook, which was in the same room where the vacuum demonstration had been conducted, police said.

Officers were able to determine that the suspect was Andre White, 24, of Little Rock.

White was located Saturday and taken into custody. He’s being charged with theft of property and has been transported to the Saline County jail for processing, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges could be forthcoming. Police ask that anyone with information regarding this case contact the Benton Police Department at (501) 778-1171 or at (501) 315-8477.
