Arkansas received an oral commitment from Dallas Bishop Lynch running back Rawleigh Williams on Saturday, but the Hogs are still looking to add a second running back to the 2015 class.
Running back Patrick Carr, 5-9, 190, 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash, of Spring (Texas) The Woodlands, recently received a scholarship offer from the Razorbacks and is planning to take an official visit to Fayetteville during the season.
"My level of interest is up there, at the top of my list," Carr said of the Hogs.
Carr said he has 13 other scholarship offers, including Arizona State, Illinois, Iowa State, Colorado, California, TCU, Texas Tech and Oregon State. Carr placed fifth in the 100 meters at the state meet with a time of 10.57 seconds. He plans to run track in college.
"It's a school that's more dual-sport," Carr said of Arkansas. "You can run track and play football. I think they have a great track program and a good football program too."
Carr, who rushed rushed 230 times for 1,635 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior, is being recruited by running backs coach Joel Thomas.
"I hear the fans are behind them all the time because the Razorbacks are really the only big thing there," Carr said. "It's amazing they get behind them and cheer them on. I like that about their spirit. I know academically it's a good school too."
The Razorbacks track and field program has three athletes from the The Woodlands: sprinter Eric Janise, jumper Ken LeGassey and sprinter/hurdles Travis Southard. Carr said Janise spoke well of the Hogs.
"He said the facilities are amazing," Carr said. "He said he likes it."
Carr said he has plans to officially visit Arizona State and Duke as well as Arkansas.
ANOTHER BEQUETTE
Little Rock Catholic offensive-defensive lineman Luc Bequette added a scholarship offer from California to his list on Saturday after attending the Bears camp.
Bequette, 6-2, 285 pounds, has offers from Army, Air Force and Louisiana-Monroe. He said he believes his best position is center and was surprised by Cal offering him as a defensive lineman.
"When he said they were offering for D-line, I kind of did a double take," Bequette said. "It kind of surprised me honestly."
New England Patriots defensive end Jake Bequette, a former Razorbacks, is his cousin.
His late grandfather, George Bequette was a lineman for Arkansas in the 1950s and uncle Jay Bequette lettered as a center in 1980-1982 while his father Chris was an offensive lineman in 1984-1987.
The younger Bequette attended Arkansas' June 16 Elite Camp and heard good feedback from offensive line coach Sam Pittman and defensive line coach Rory Segrest. Tight ends coach Barry Lunney Jr. spoke to him.
"Coach Lunney said they might want me to come to another camp in July to further evaluate me," Bequette said.
"I'm crossing my fingers for that Arkansas offer," Bequette said.
Bequette, who has a 3.4 grade point average and has scored a 26 on the ACT, plans to attend Navy's camp this weekend. He's excited about the California offer and is hoping for more.
"It's my first BSC offer," he said. "Vanderbilt seems real excited. They told me they wanted me to come to their July camp for D-line."
Bequette moved to Little Rock in December from Champaign, Ill., where he played at 260 pounds last season. He wanted to add bulk and reached 285 in April.
"Just a lot of lean meats and make sure I eat my fruits and vegetables," said Bequette of his increased weight. "I drank a lot of milk so I kind of think that helped too."
MISSOURI QB INTRIGUES
Several talented junior quarterbacks took part in Arkansas' Elite Camp last Thursday and one appears to have risen above the others.
Skylar Thompson, 6-2, 188, 4.6 of Independence, (Mo.) Fort Osage High School, impressed offensive coordinator and quarterback coach Jim Chaney. Thompson and his parents spoke to Chaney for about 20 minutes after the camp.
Thompson said Chaney told him he's No. 1 on their quarterback board, but wants to see a few other juniors in a July camp.
"He said after that, if he still feels like I'm their No. 1 guy, they're probably going to offer me," Thompson said. "He said he's not a 100 percent sure if it's going to be before the season starts or if it's going to be the first weekend of the season or the second. The way he told me, if I'm still the number one guy after July they're possibly going to offer me."
Thompson completed 106 of 186 passes for 1,451 yards, 19 touchdowns and rushed for 705 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior.
He's also drawing interest from Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, Northwestern and Kentucky. He said he hopes to see the Hogs extend an offer.
"It would be awesome to get an offer from Arkansas,"Thompson said. "Especially from a guy like Coach Chaney and what their school has to offer to me."
HOT COMMODITY
Highly regarded defensive end Jeremiah Ledbetter, 6-4, 265, 4.72 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Hutchinson Community College in Kansas plans to arrive in Fayetteville on Wednesday for an official visit. He has scholarship offers from several schools, including Arkansas, Florida, Georgia and Miami.
